Dr. Ladan Arissian is a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Colorado, where she develops ultrafast optical techniques for the characterization, calibration, and traceable measurement of radio-frequency and electromagnetic waveforms from the RF through the terahertz regime. She also serves as Deputy Division Chief of the Radio Frequency Division in the Communications Technology Laboratory at NIST.
Dr. Arissian earned her Ph.D. in Optical Science and Engineering from the University of New Mexico, conducting her doctoral research in the Diels ultrafast laser group. She also holds two M.Sc. degrees: one in Nuclear Engineering (Medical Imaging) and another in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics.
She has maintained a long-standing connection with UNM over nearly two decades, serving in academic research appointments including Research Professor and Assistant Professor. Her prior positions also include Research Officer in the Frequency and Time program at the National Research Council of Canada, Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa, and Research Scientist in the Department of Physics at Texas A&M University.
